Neck Pain and Arm Pain
Neck pain is a popular reason why many seek chiropractic care, but at the same time it is the one area patients are most apprehensive about. Depending on the mechanism of injury it can range from a sharp to a dull ache, and often times complicated cervical spine issues can cause radiating pain into the shoulder, arm, and hand. If the vertebrae is misaligned by poor posture, accidents/falls, or overuse; the muscles and tendons will be forced to stretch too far. This can cause pain and discomfort in all aspects of the cervical spine. Also, this action of the connective tissue can force the spinal segments out of place, putting pressure on the nerves, causing the pain to travel down into the upper extremities. One such condition is carpal tunnel syndrome. This whole syndrome can be quite uncomfortable, and until the spine and connective tissues are helped back into their normal positions, the pain usually does not go away.
